Produce on our farm |
How did we start the farm
My dad loved the idea of growing organic food so he started to plant a mini farm in our back yard. Unfortunately we didn't have enough space but still managed to grow a few things. Our new home though, was built on a few acres of land so we had enough space to farm.
Why we farmed
My father wanted us to eat good clean food without any chemicals so he started to grow our favourite vegetables. After a tiring eight months the farm was ready and enough to provide us with our first harvest. We started giving our vegetables to some of our friends and obviously for a fair price and soon we had more subscribers who wanted our vegetables and we were able to help people eat well and change their diet to a healthy one. So that is another reason why we farmed, to do some good to our friends and family.

Benefits of the farm
I really feel that me and my family are getting more healthier everyday because we are eating fresh food. We spend less money on groceries as we hardly buy market products (except for meat, fish, dairy and chocolates!). I don't do much yet but that's because I'm busy with school and sports and my weekend activities. I have a big role to play in school and plenty of sporting events which takes up a lot of my time. During the next term break we have visitors coming to the farm so I intend to be more helpful. What do we grow
It's actually quite a long list but what we grow are all our favourite vegetables. Have you eve eaten a bitter gourd raw? Well, I have and it's really an acquired taste, something I have learned to enjoy. We grow all local vegetables, take look at the pictures below to get a glimpse of what we grow. My mom runs the Facebook group of our farm, Homegrown Farms Semenyih, plenty of information there!

I hope to write more about my farming adventures so people in my generation can learn about modern farming.
